The new plans

In brief, the three sections of the Fund from January 2008 are:

Final salary plan
This is the new name for the current Fund. Pensions are linked to members' salary and the service they build up in the plan. This plan closed to new members on 1 January 2008.

Career average plan
Pensions are linked to members' earnings (between two levels) and the service they build up in the plan year by year. This plan opened on 1 January 2008.

Investing plan
This plan is open to members of both the Final salary and Career average plans to pay extra contributions on top of those they are making to their main plan.
